When the first generation of NRIs moved from India to the United States, the dream was clear: to build a stable and successful life through education, hard work, and a career in the corporate world, for many—especially from middle-class backgrounds in India
So such NRIs came here with some qualification and later achieved higher education to make place in the corporate world and have been successful in that career path.
So with this scenario, we never thought of getting in the business as that was never motive when came to USA. Moreover, Marathi community has not been known for its focus on entrepreneurship in the same way as, for example, Gujarati community.
But times are changing.
Today, our second generation - born and raised in USA, has grown up with strong educational foundations, cultural identity, and access to supportive family and community network. This new generation is ready not just to work in successful companies - but to build them.
At TownSol, we believe now is the time to spark an entrepreneurial movement within the Marathi community with the goal to plant the seeds for businesses that can grow across generations and take pride in both their cultural roots and global outlook.
Here are few innovative proposals for the NON INDIAN population/market in mind,
- Marathi/Indian modern ready-to-wear versions of traditional outfits. e.g. pant-style sarees, dhotar.
- Outlets of Marathi ethnic food like Pohe, ladoo, Vada etc. under the label of Fast Food
- Wellness schools of Yoga based on government recognized Indian Yoga Institutes (like AYUSH certification)
- And much more ………
Join the Movement……Let us support this Movement by having intelligent, informative and interactive discussion here and collaborate on creating opportunities to motivate and support our next generation.
Let us shape a future where the Marathi community is known not just for its intellect, but also for its entrepreneurial spirit and innovation.
Please add your comments below about such business opportunities that you know or think of.

This is a powerful and inspiring message, and it touches on a very important evolution happening in many immigrant communities across the U.S. The transition from being corporate-focused to business-oriented is not only natural, but necessary, especially for generational wealth-building and legacy creation.
Your initiative with TownSol to encourage the Marathi community’s second generation to explore entrepreneurship is commendable. You’re absolutely right: Gujaratis have long had strong community-based systems that promote business, and there’s no reason why the Marathi community can’t create a similar model—with its own unique flavor and strengths.
I will surely come up with few ideas meanwhile I will also spread this message among my Marathi friends around.
